The Master’s call
By Jacob Riley

O, how I turned to running,
When I heard the Judge’s call;
And how I thought I was condemned,
To being hell’s eternal thrall.
But when most sunken in my sins,
I found mercy for them all:
O, how I came a running,
When I heard the Saviour’s call.
O, how I went to chasing,
When heard sins enticing call;
Forgetting my dear Jesus,
Who had saved me from the fall.
But in from night of weeping,
A glorious dawn I saw:
And how my sins seemed empty,
When I heard the Master’s call.
O, how I felt a drawing,
When I heard my Lover’s voice:
For ‘twas He who taught me how to love,
And in his love rejoice.
And now I must go to him:
I’ll take no other choice.
O, how my heart was captured,
When I heard my Lover’s voice.
Lord, may my heart be ready,
When I hear the Sender’s call.
And may I hide within they strength,
In Satan’s tempting gall.
Listen, now, listen,
Ye sinners one and all:
To how my soul was lifted,
When it heard the Saviour’s call.
