** This is loosely paraphrased/ based on an anecdote I read in Farm & Ranch Living, but I have heard similar stories/ lines from many folks
This old farmer was telling a story of having to fix a fence on the Lord’s Day. A car had run off the road, taken out several posts & torn a large hole in his fence by a major highway (endangering drivers & cows).
He said that he “tried to do as little work as possible on Sunday, but there are things that come up.”
Then he quipped :
” My Dad always used to say, ‘ It’s all right to pull the ox out of the mire on Sunday as long as you didn’t push him in on Saturday night’.”
Words to live by.
