Prior to the rise of Obama & company, the GOP had partial controll of the Federal government for a majority of the years in the previous three decades. They had complete controll of all three branches for at least six years in recent times. And they held a majority of governor’s mansions AND all three branches of the Fed gov at the turn of the century. (there was actually talk that the Democrats could never recover )
The leadership of the Religious Right had seen their strategy of incrimentalism, pragmatism, loyalty to the GOP, and a centralized/ top-down approach victorious. (and what great advances did we have to show for it ?)
It could be argued that the victory of Obama & Pelosi was created by these leaders & their strategy.
And I believe I can make the case (to wnayone who wants to ask with an open mind) that most of the Obama/ Pelosi abominations have their roots – directly or indirectly – in policies & principles enacted by Republicans (with Christian leades cheering them on).
Why then, are we so willing to follow these same leaders, the same party, same ideas & same strategy when their has been no repentance or even self examination ? Can new wine suddenly prosper in old wine skins ?
This is not rhetorical or meant to be accusitory . . . I would really like an answer (particularly from those who promote this approach).
Those in Mississippi who want a different approach can check this out :

You’re absolutely correct, Les. The next elections are setting up to be the classic (and unbiblical): “lessor of two evils,” whereby the Republican candidates tell Christians, “We may not be exactly what y’all want, but we’re much better than the Democrats.”
If we sit back and wait to see which candidates the Republicans choose, we will once again find that our choice will be between a socialist (immature Marxist) candidate put forth by the Republicans, and a full-fledged Marxist candidate put forth by the Democrats.
Where are seminars sponsored by churches for local legislators and candidates who profess to be Christians to instruct them in how to govern according the biblcal ethics?
Where are sermons provided that relate current issues to biblical ethics?
Where are the churches that either offer assistance to home school families, or tuition assistance to parents who can’t afford to send their children to Christian day schools?
Minus these and other projects we can begin doing today, we will once again have no viable candidates for whom to vote, and will continue to reap the unbiblical fruit of our disobedience and dishonor to our Lord, Savior and King, Jesus Christ.
One thing is for certain: Our continued disobedience will not in any way hinder God’s eternally perfect plan for the earth: HIS PEOPLE WILL CHRISTIANIZE THE CULTURE!
Another thing for certain: Unless American Christians repent, He will move His lamp from us to another people to take the lead in “crushing Satan’s head.” (Genesis 3.15; Romans 16.20)
For our grandchildren’s sake, for our children’s sake, for our sake … for God’s sake, may we repent and return to living according to the truths in which we profess to believe!

Hi Les,
While I agree with your diagnosis on the sick state of this two party system I’m not sure if I follow you on its cure. I mean I see two dogs in the race and only one will win. The Dem Dog that is outright evil Big Gov. Big TAXERS who declares death on its on children and promotes homosexuallity, doesn’t honor the constitution and the list goes on and on….. Then the Gop Dogs though many are conservative in name only at least some are somewhat morally and fiscally conservative.
Now in my opinion since only one of the two dogs are going to win you try and do everything possible to stop that ravaging baby killing wolf of a dog. (the Dem. Dog) Then you get grass roots citizens to call out, vote out, and weed out every fake conservative.
Then we must heed as Noah Webster states; “God commands you to choose for rulers, just men who will rule in the fear of God. If the citizens neglect THEIR DUTY and place unprincipled men in office, the government will soon be corrupt.
But hey I’m an a learning curb. Convince me a third Party (one that has answers and can compete and it will have my vote) For now I’m calling these Republicans into accountability.

Thanks for your openess, Grant. I’ll try to write a thorough answer to your questions later. One quick point :
” For now I’m calling these Republicans into accountability.”
If they are using you to get elected, then not doing what they promise, how do you hold them accountable if you continue to vote for them ?

Hi Grant,
I’m sure Les can walk you though this one point at a time, but I’d offer a second look at the quote you gave:
“God commands you to choose for rulers men who will rule in the fear of God.”
We have no men either Dem or Rep that fear God, let alone rule in the fear of God. In some ways the Rep are worse because they claim an alliegiance to God with their words, but repeatedly deny Him by their actions. God judes us by our actions and it is our actions that show our true beliefs.
In other words talk is cheap – and they have been talking for over 40 years while this nation has continued to move further into decline.
Hope that helps…

Leslie,
You echo my thoughts exactly about how the Republicans are guilty of leading us down the road to our present Democrat administration. Unfortunately, the biggest problem we have to overcome is not the Republicans who continually throw us under the bus but the well meaning Christians who keep voting to put them in office. Thus far, I have attempted to bring these issues up with my own church and family only to have it fall on deaf ears.
I am not totally against working within the Republican Party to promote good candidates. I think there are many Representatives and possibly a few Senators who are reasonably good officials. However, when the choice is between Obama/Biden-McCain/Palin, I’m simply not going to vote for McCain/Palin, not when there is another alternative such as Baldwin/Castle.
What I fear is that even if all the genuine Christians bolted from the Republican Party, there are not enough of them to gain power with any third party. I’m not saying that to be discouraging. I cast my vote with the courage of my convictions but also with understanding the signs of the times.
Back to your point, what good does/did it do for the Christians to vote for McCain/Palin? It did absolutely no good. No good at all. All it did was confirm the liberal and moderate wing of the Republican Party that the Christian masses will turn out for them even with such on obviously flawed candidate as McCain. Besides, that the average Christian’s candidate (McCain) isn’t in power. They might as well have voted for Mickey Mouse, which might be an improvement come to think of it.
I would like to offer a new strategy (or at least one I haven’t heard before). Most people say they are afraid to vote third party because they are afraid it will throw the election to the Dems. But that is very short sighted. Many of us live in reliably red states like Texas and Mis’sippi. What people have to see is the outcome of any election in these states is not really in question. We need to push these kinds of people to vote CP on the basis that they don’t have to worry about throwing the election to the Dems because right now (unfortunately) there are not enough third party votes to make that a reality. This assumes that we have already shown them the light which is they aren’t going to get what they want with the Republican candidate to begin with. And it needs to be explained that while reality states a CP presidential candidate isn’t going to win the next presidential election, once enough people start voting CP it will send a message to the political powers that be that they will have to come back to us or over to us if they want our votes.

Excellent point James (the strategy of using votes for CP candidates to get Republican attention & make them behave).
Gus Hall ran for President on the Communist Party USA ticket for several election cycles in the 40’s & 50’s. When asked why he had quit running, he said the Democratic Party had adopted his platform.
When Republicans realize that they cannot take conservative & Christian votes for granted (because CP candidates are getting 10 to 15% and costing them elections) then they will pay attention & make sure they earn these votes with actions. THIS is holding people accountable.
But, with all this talk of strategy, let us remember what John Qunicy Adams & Stonewall Jackson knew : “Duty is ours, results are God’s”.
BTW: James, I completely agree with you here –
“I am not totally against working within the Republican Party to promote good candidates. I think there are many Representatives and possibly a few Senators who are reasonably good officials. ”
There are a few men fighting the good fight in the District of Criminals (aka Sodom on the Potomac) and many “good”, principled Republicans here in Mississippi in the legislature, in local office and among private citizens. (Our good friend & former employer in Aberdeen comes to mind).
I am working to form coalitions & alliances with these men to advance an agenda of Christian liberty at the state & local level.
I don’t question anyones motives, principles, or character who works within the GOP — in fact I pray for their success.
However, I am absolutely convinced that “reform the GOP” and “work to elect good Republicans” is a strategy that has proven to be an abysmal failure and it is one built on “sight” not faith.
